Do you support the closure of the Western Springs Speedway?

A local icon with a rich 95-year history, the Western Springs Speedway has met its fate at the hands of Auckland Council.

Since 1929, Western Springs Speedway has come to be known as the home for the speedway scene in Auckland, in addition to serving as a venue for a number of headline events, hosting the lieks of Bob Marley, Post Malone, and Six60.

Despite opposition from the motorsport community and heritage groups, councillors voted in late October to shutter the venue and move the speedway to Waikaraka Park.

The decision leaves local businesses and communities in limbo, with no plans announced for the existing venue. This would leave one of Auckland's oldest and most populous areas without a sporting or events space.
