With special votes tallied and the final count declared for the Auckland local elections, Communities and Residents (C&R) has made major gains across the region and achieved significant results on key local boards.
Standing candidates in 58 positions, we are proud to have increased our representation to 33 elected members and won important majorities on the Waitematā Local Board, Puketāpapa Local Board, and Mt Wellington Licensing Trust.
Along with retaining our foothold on the Howick Local Board, we also delivered a clean sweep on the Ōrākei Local Board and Albert-Eden Local Board (Maungawhau subdivision), and now have a presence on the Devenport-Takapuna Local Board.
C&R is thrilled with the announcement of its Ōrākei Ward Councillor Desley Simpson as Deputy Mayor of Auckland who, alongside C&R Councillor Christine Fletcher, will help the mayor deliver on his mandate for change and bring more efficiencies and savings to keep rates as low as possible as Aucklanders face tough economic conditions.
Our congratulations go out to our C&R members who recently were sworn in as Chair on their respective boards, including Ella Kumar (Puketāpapa Local Board), Scott Milne (Ōrākei Local Board) and Troy Elliott (Mt Wellington Licensing Trust). We look forward to Kendyl Smith taking on Albert-Eden Local Board chair in the second half of the term.
